Promotion of Life and Suicide Prevention Week in the Outaouais

If you need help, take a key... If someone close to you needs help, reach
out and give them the key... Break the silence of those suffering, by
helping each other...

Every day in Quebec, four to five people take their own life ; eight to ten people are affected directly or indirectly by suicide (a relative, colleague, friend or neighbour) Eight out of ten show signs of their intention.

This year the awareness campaign «Reaching out is the key» aims at informing the population that we can respond today for tomorrow, combating the distress which leads to suicide. We invite you, one and all, to become involved, pay attention and listen to those around you who are suffering. Suicide has no age limit, no gender and no social status. There is no one cause of suicide but we can respond to all those living with unbearable distress by presenting alternatives. Offer the choice of life.

I invite you to carefully read the following information it offers important guidance in recognizing and helping the person who is suffering.

There is now a toll free intervention line available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week across Quebec for those tormented by suicidal ideas, those close to them and those who are mourning a loss from suicide.

We are all confronted by suffering…
Today’s action for tomorrow…
Together, break the silence that kills…
