Users' Committee functions

The «CSSS du Pontiac» has just completed the nomination period for persons interested in being part of the «CSSS du Pontiac»’s Users’ Committee.

The statutory functions of the committee are :

Users’ Committee (under the Board of Directors):

1 - To inform users of their rights and obligations;
2 - To promote the improvement of the quality of life for users and assess the degree of user satisfaction with the services obtained from the establishment;
3 - To defend the rights and interests of users or, at the request of a user, his rights and his interests as a user with the establishment or any competent authority;
4 - To accompany and assist, upon request, a user in any action he or she undertake, including the wish to bring a complaint in accordance with Sections I, II and III of Title II of the Act respecting Health and Social Services or Under the Act of the Ombudsman in Health and Social Services (chapter P-31.1);
5 – To ensure, where appropriate, the proper functioning of each of the Residents’ Committees and ensure they have the resources necessary to carry out their duties.

By law, all mandates were completed and should be renewed for the next three years.

We are pleased to announce the formal establishment of the committee, all members were elected by acclamation:

Mrs. Elaine Denault remains contact person for the Users' Committee, assuming the duties of secretary-treasurer of this committee.

We congratulate them for their positions. We are grateful for the interest they show to the clientele, large and varied, and we wish them well for the performance of their important mandate, which will officially begin in September. By then, some retiring members thus remain in office. We gratefully acknowledge the time and dedication to clientele and their collaboration to the «CSSS du Pontiac», namely:

The members of the Users' Committee met six times. These meetings alternate between the Pontiac Reception Centre and the Manoir Sacré-Cœur.  At the committee's request, the Director of the Autonomy Support Program attends the meetings and acts as chair. She guides us in the exercise of our role with respect to the rights and obligations of users. She  communicates to us, on a regular basis, items of general interest that help us to inform the users and get involved. 
 
During the year, we renewed the terms of office of all the members, in accordance with the Act. We did not need to hold an election.
 
The Users’ Committee is composed with the following persons:

(Please note that these appointments will be reviewed only when the term of office of the Board of Directors of the CSSS du Pontiac is renewed).

SPECIAL PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES:
 
In collaboration with the management, the Committee helped to organize a family meal during the Easter period. We took advantage of this occasion to promote the Committee by offering a pamphlet on the functions of the Users' Committee to all the visitors, as well as helping to serve the meal.  Three activities were held, one in the Manoir Sacré-Cœur,  one  in  the Pontiac Reception Centre and one in the Long-term Care Unit.  
 
We participated in the Foire des aînés, where we installed a stand and distributed pamphlets and pens with the name of the Users' Committee. This day was a great success.
 
Participated in the 2010 calendar published by the RCUO and distributed throughout all the CSSS du Pontiac facilities. 
 
OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
 
Participation in the RCUO annual general meeting.
Participation in the training sessions given by the RCUO.
Participation in a press conference on the H1N1 pandemic.
Collaboration with  the CQA (Conseil Québécois d’Agrément) for administration of questionnaires on satisfaction levels of residents in residential centres, in the framework of the Accreditation process.
Participation in the Ministry inspection of the IRs-FTRs in the territory in April 2009, and the inspection of the MSC in February 2010. Following the Ministry inspection of the IRs-FTRs, all the recommendations that concerned us were implemented.
Welcome packages are given to all new arrivals.
The daily menu has been posted in both languages in every residential centre.

IN CONCLUSION:
 
All the members of the CSSS du Pontiac Users' Committee remain committed and devoted to their clientele, their residents and their users. Collaboration with the CSSS personnel is close, constant and pleasant.
