GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE OF OBSTETRICS

The Obstetrical services of the Pontiac Hospital Centre is responsible, in collaboration with numerous partners, for monitoring the progress of pregnant women of the Pontiac and assuring a safe delivery of their child.

The Pontiac Hospital Centre has over 125 deliveries per year.

The perinatal services are available at 2 levels : the perinatal team assures the medical monitoring of the mother and fœtus to ensure normal evolution of the pregnancy. Furthermore, the CLSC Pontiac’s Parent and Child Health Program organizes prenatal courses, psychosocial consultations of expectant parents, and other programs related to child birth (OLO program, NEGES) and also postnatal services. These services are defined more precisely in another section.

PHILOSOPHY

The Birthing Centre philosophy is centered on the early development of the parent-child bond through such activities as rooming-in and breastfeeding. Our main objective is to encourage family integration in the delivery process. We tried to recreate a home-like environment which promotes rooming-in of the mother, child, and father or family member or a friend during their stay at the hospital.

EQUIPMENT

Each room is equiped with the latest technology in medical equipment required for a normal delivery. The rooms are constructed so that the location and storage space of this equipment blends well with the birthing room concept. All equipment required in case of an emergency is at close proximity to the birthing rooms.

ROOMS

Our new birthing rooms are spacious, warm and inviting. The rooms are equipped with a sofa-bed that can be used to relax in or as a bed for the father, a family member or a friend. Each room has its own complete private bathroom equipped with a therapeutic bath for natural pain control.
